Ash Wednesday

Tomorrow is Ash Wednesday - the beginning of Lent. This is the season of penance, reflection, and fasting in preparation for the resurrection of Christ on Easter Sunday through which we can obtain redemption. It is also a day of fasting and abstinence to help us bring Jesus' life & death to the forefront of our lives for this 40 day period.
Our mass is at 7pm and we'll have our foreheads marked with an ash cross. My heart will be humbled and I will be reminded that my life on this Earth will pass away - returning me to ash.
The ashes are made from the blessed palms used in the Palm Sunday celebration the previous year. Ashes symbolize penance and contrition - and will remind me of the power of the sacrament of Reconciliation that I will do before the Easter vigil. The ashes remind us also that God is gracious and merciful to those who as Him for forgiveness with truth repentent hearts. His Divine Mercy is of utmost importance during Lent - sought through reflection, prayer, & penance.
May this Lenten season find your heart opened to God's forgiveness and full of love for yourself, your God, and your fellow man.
God bless - peace be with you.
